Christlike Attributes

December 2nd, 2008
Christlike Attributes
Principle 3: Obedience is a vital attribute in missionary work.

1 Nephi 3:7
As a missionary, we should always obey all the commandments. Missionaries need not be blindly obedient but rather faithfully obedient. We will have great power and peace as keeping faithful obedience. Nephi said to his father, I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded. We know that the Lord will not command us to do anything unless he knows that we have the ability to accomplish it. Whatever the Lord commands us to do, he will help us find way to accomplish it.

Alma 37:35
We should start to learn to keep the commandments when we were young. As we grow up, we should exercise our faith by keeping all the commandments. In order to prepare ourselves to be a obedient missionary, we should start to keep all the commandments now, not even once break them. As we do that, the Lord will help us with everything that we need. We will receive much more blessings as we sacrifice.

Christlike Attributes

November 24th, 2008
Christlike Attributes
Principle 1: Missionaries strive to develop Christlike attributes.
2 Nephi 31:9-10
In order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, we should follow Christ and keep all the commandments.
We should have faith in Christ, repent for our sins, be baptized in his name, always follow the commandments. Strive to develop ourselves to be more like him. This is the only way that we can be saved.

3 Nephi 18:24
We should develop Christlike attributes. These attributes including faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, charity, humility, diligence. Faith leads to knowledge and understanding. If we have faith, the Spirit will teach us. Patience gives us joy and happiness, we feel peace.

Principle 2: Missionaries are commanded to serve God with all their "heart, might, mind and strength."
D&C 4:2-5
Missionary work is the work for the Lord. We have to have the desire to serve. We are called to serve only if we have desire to serve. There are many people who are ready to listen to the gospel. Missionaries should spend two years serve diligently with all their heart, might, mind and strength. The Lord promises us that we will be blessed.

D&C 18:15-16
We are blessed with the gospel. We feel joy and happiness from the gospel. Heavenly Father wants us to share our joy and happiness with all his children. We should go preach the gospel to everybody, so that they will be able to feel the same thing, receive the same blessings as we do.

Preparing investigators for baptism and confirmation

November 17th, 2008
Preparing investigators for baptism and confirmation
Principle 1: As investigators come unto Christ and prepare to become Church members, they must understand the covenants associated with saving ordinances and be willing to make and keep the sacred obligations.
D&C 20:37
Baptism is the gateway to enter the Kingdom of the Lord. It is also a commandment. Jesus was no sins, but he was baptized as well. Missionaries should help the investigators understand each of the covenant that they will make during baptism. Missionaries should also encourage them to keep all the covenants they made with Heavenly Father. Investigators should prepare for their baptism by humble themselves, truly repent for their sins, willing to take upon them the name of Jesus Christ, having a determination to serve the Lord to the end.

D&C 42:78
Everybody who was baptized should obey all the commandments and covenants of the church. As they keep all the covenants they made with the Lord, the Lord will keep his commandments too. We promise the Lord that we will keep the Sabbath Day holy, follow the prophets, live the law of chastity, obey the word of Wisdom, live the law of tithing...The Lord promise us that he will bless us with whatever we need. He will guide us through the Holy Ghost to help us go back to him.

Principle 2: Missionaries help those who are converted prepare for baptism, confirmation, and membership in the Lord's church.
D&C 59:9-10
Through my experiences, people who are converted do not know too much about the church. It is important that missionaries help them to understand. To help them prepare for baptism, missionaries should invite them to have faith in the Lord, repent, and make commitments to keep the commandments for the rest of their lives. Not even once break them.

Exodus 20: 8-11
These scriptures are talking about keeping the sabbath day holy. The Lord gives us six days to do all the work, only one day to worship him. We should not do anything that will not bring us spirit. We should wake up early in the morning, study and ponder scriptures, get ready for the church meetings. We should not skip any church meetings. On Sunday, we should read scriptures, do our home teachings, spent time with our family, pray, fasting. As we keep the sabbath day holy, we will be able to have the spirit with us through out the week.

Using time wisely to bring people to Christ

November 12, 2008
Using time wisely to bring people to Christ
Principle 1: Finding people to teach is a responsibility for missionaries and Church members.
D &C 123: 12
There are many people who never had the opportunity to hear about the gospel. They live in darkness, without the knowledge of the gospel, without the guidelines of the Holy Ghost. It is not because they do not believe the gospel, but because they did not even hear. I am from the mainland China where the church is not strong. Before I came to America, I was like anybody else in China, did not have any knowledge of the gospel.

D&C 123:13
Missionaries' responsibility is looking for people to teach. There are lots of people in the world ready to hear the gospel. They are ready to hear and accept, being baptized. Missionaries should seek those people, share gospel with everybody you meet. Pray for the spirit, the spirit will help missionaries find those who will eventually be baptized and stay active and faithful. Always work hard, have the spirit to be with us.

Principle 2: Effective planning, goal setting, and time management help focus missionary efforts and increase success.

D&C 109:8
Making plans helps missionaries manage their time effectively and wisely. We should organize our time, do not waste any, use them all wisely in serving the Lord. We should go to bed early, arise early in the morning to make plans for the day, to study and ponder scriptures, to pray for the spirit. Our brain factions more effective in the morning time than at night. We should also set goals, and try to accomplish all those goals.

Physical and Emotional Preparation

November 10th, 2008
Physical and Emotional Preparation
Principle 1: Prospective missionaries should prepare for the physical and emotional demands of a full-time mission.
D&C 4:2
We should service the God with all our heart, might, mind and strength. We should prepare ourselves both physically and spiritually. Personal worthiness is important for us to have spirit when teaching. The Lord's way of serving is learn and teach by the Spirit. The Spirit will only be with us if we are worthy. We are representing the Lord sharing gospel with his children. If ourselves are not righteous, how can we teach others? So it is important for us to be spiritually prepared.

D&C 88:124
Physical preparation is also very important. Missionary work is not very easy. We will face lots of difficulties. If missionaries struggle with physical or metal health, they will not be able to serve the Lord with all might and strength. We need to develop a good habits of eating, exercising, sleep and personal hygiene before we enter the mission filed. We should keep the word of wisdom, eat healthy food. We should go to bed early and wake up early to be ready to work.

principle 2: There are honorable alternatives to full-time missionary service for those individuals excused by priesthood leaders because of their physical or emotional circumstance.

There are many services church has provided for those who have physical or emotional problems. For example, temple services, visit center, church education system, church services...

Faith and Conversion

November 5th, 2008
Faith and Conversion
Principle 3: Faith leads to conversion.
2 Nephi: 3:19-20
Faith is very important for both missionaries and investigators. Missionaries should not only increase their own faith, but more importantly, they should help investigators increase their faith. If investigators do not have faith, then they won't believe whatever we taught them. If they have faith, then they will have the desire to learn, even by themselves. So the most important thing is to let them have faith. Faith leads to conversion.

Alma: 32:7-8
Many people are seeking for the true church. As missionaries teach them the restored gospel, their faith begin to develop. Faith can help investigators to recognize the feeling of truth. When that feeling comes, faith increases and leads them to have the desire to believe the message and live the commandments. If they believe in the message, then they shall repent for their sins and obey all the commandments. That leads them to baptism and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Principle 4: Conversion includes repentance, baptism, and the reception of the gift of Holy Ghost.
Matthew 3: 16
Faith leads investigators to repentance. If the investigators have faith, then they will be willing to repent. Repentance prepares them to the ordinances of baptism. When Jesus Christ's baptism was done, the Heavenly was open unto him. He saw the Spirit of God lightening upon him. That was receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost.

2 Nephi: 31:13
After we receive the Gift of Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost will always be with us as we keep having faith and keep all the commandments. We can speak with the tongue of angels after we receive the Gift of Holy Ghost. We will always be guided by the Spirit. We will be able to learn and talk by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Faith and Conversion

November 3rd, 2008
Faith and Conversion
Principle 1: Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is essential to spiritual growth.
1 Nephi: 7:12
Having Faith in Jesus Christ is that we must have a firm belief that He is the Son of God, our Savior and Redeemer. We know that only through his atonement and sacrifice, we are able to return to our Heavenly Father. We must trust in His power, intelligence and love. Through faith in Jesus Christ, nothing is impossible. Heavenly Father promises that he will help us with everything as long as we have faith, we trust and ask him. We should always remember our Savior Jesus Christ, be grateful and keep all his commandments.

2 Nephi: 9:23
Having Faith in Jesus Christ leads us to repentance. Only through his atonement, we are able to repent. We should believe in his atonement and always be grateful, so that we will follow him and repent. Jesus Christ commanded all of us to repent, be clean from the sins. Then, we must be baptized by his name, having perfect faith in the Holy one of Israel. If we do not keep his commandments, we will not be saved.

Principle 2: Faith can increase.
Romans 10:17
Having Faith in the Lord can help us receive the Holy Ghost. Faith comes by hearing, hearing comes by the Words of God. As we have faith, the Spirit will help us hear the words of God. We will be guided as we make decisions. The Spirit will only be with those who have Faith in the Lord. As the Faith increase, the Spirit will be increased as well.

Jacob 4:6
Faith can increase. First, we must trust the Lord with all our souls. We keep all the commandments because we trust the Lord with all our souls. We should study and ponder in his words, diligently study the scriptures everyday. We should humble ourselves, seek the words of God. We should trust that the Lord has great power, he can help us with everything. We should pray and ask for help. With the help of the Lord, nothing is impossible. Heavenly Father always prepare ways for us as we have Faith in him.

The Restoration and the coming forth of New Scripture

October 29th, 2008
The restoration and the coming forth of New Scripture
Principle 3: The Book of Mormon helps bring people to Christ.
1 Nephi 19:18
Nephi wrote down these records for us, he persuade us that we would remember the Lord, our Redeemer. All the words in the scripture are the words from God. The Book of Mormon is a witness of our savior Jesus Christ. It contains the true doctrines of the gospel, outline the plan of salvation, and tells us what to do to gain peace on the earth and eternal life in the life to come. I know the Book of Mormon teaches true doctrines, these doctrines guides us to become more perfect.

2 Nephi 25:23-26
The Prophets wrote the Book of Mormon diligently in order to persuade us to believe in Christ, to be reconciled to God. We should study and ponder the scriptures everyday, diligently. We should read with a sincere heart and real intent, it will convince us that Jesus is the Christ. I really learned a lot good principles from the Book of Mormon. It helps me to understand my life, my goals.

Principle 4:The Book of Mormon is convincing evidence of the Restoration.
1 Nephi 13:40
The Book of Mormon is an evidence for the Restoration of the Gospel. It is not only a witness of Jesus Christ, but also a witness of Joseph Smith who translated the Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith restored the Gospel, and organized the church. He is the witness of the Restoration of the Gospel.

D&C 20:8-12
The scriptures are the words of God, therefore, it does not change. It teaches the same principle as before, and will teach the same principle in the future. They are all true principles from Heavenly Father. We should follow the teaching of God, to prepare to enter eternal life.

The Restoration and the coming forth of New Scripture

October 27th, 2008
The Restoration and the coming forth of New Scripture
Principle 1: God called Joseph Smith to be the prophet of the Restoration.
D&C1:17
Joseph Smith went to a forest to pray unto the Lord. Heavenly Father and Jesus came unto him and talked with him. Heavenly Father said unto him "this is my beloved son, hear him". Jesus gave Joseph some commandments. Joseph listened to Jesus and restored the gospel. He organized the church, organized the first Presidency, the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and the Seventy.

D&C 136:37
Heavenly Father called Prophets to do the things he want to do on the earth. The Prophets is the servants of Heavenly Father. He tells us what Heavenly Father wants us to do. God is the only one who choose Prophets. He give them the authority and priesthood to do his work. Our church organization is perfect, better than any other organization on the earth. I think that is the power of Holy Ghost, the power of God. Without this power, the church will not be so well organized.

Principle 2: Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon and brought forth other scriptures by the gift and power of God.
1 Nephi 13: 39-40
On the title page of the Book of Mormon, we see that it was translated by Prophet Joseph Smith. When Joseph saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, he was told the place where the plates are. He was also asked to translate the Book of Mormon. He did all the commandments that Heavenly Father commanded him.

2 Nephi 3: 11-12
We do not know how Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon, but we do know the process was inspired. Heavenly Father gave him the Power to help him. The spirit of the Holy Ghost, combine with his great faith, diligent work, he was able to accomplish the translation. In our lives, we face lots of challenges. As we pray and follow the spirit, have faith, work diligently, I think nothing is impossible. Heavenly Father will help us accomplish everything just like helping Joseph Smith.

Prophets and Apostasy

October 22nd, 2008
Prophets and Apostasy
Principles 1: The rejection of the Savior, His teachings, and priesthood authority resulted in the Apostasy of the New Testament Church.
Timothy 1:15
People fell into Apostasy because of rejecting words of Prophets. Heavenly Father sent Jesus to atone for our sins and restore the Gospel. Jesus came to earth restored the Gospel and organized the church. He teaches the true Plan of Salvation. He gave His Apostles authority to help teach the gospel, perform the ordinances of salvation, and establish the church. Many people started to reject again.

Matthew 24:24
When people started to reject the teaching of Jesus Christ, they taught false doctrines and the true Church of Jesus Christ was lost. Without the losing of Christ, Holy Ghost and repentance was lost too. People were not able to repent anymore. Without the Holy Ghost, people start to live in darkness again without direction. This is the another period of Apostasy.

Principle 2: The European Reformation helped prepare the way for the final Restoration.
Joel 2:28
People lived in the spiritual darkness for a long time. They started to seek the truth. They recognized that many of the doctrines and ordinances of the Gospel had been changed or lost. The sought for greater spiritual light, many people started to think that they need the true Gospel. The God knows these people and called them Prophets. These Prophets helped prepare the way for the final Restoration.

Joel 2:29
The Gospel was Apostasy and restored again and again. But after the final Restoration, even some people now rejecting the words of Jesus Christ. The Gospel will not be removed from the earth any more. But we still need to avoid the Apostasy by having faith in Jesus Christ, repent, and keep all the commandments.

Prophets and Apostasy

October 20th, 2008
Prophets and Apostasy
Principle 1: The Lord provides truth, priesthood authority, ordinances, and organization through His prophets.
Alma 12:27-30
Many people on the earth lived in darkness, they did not know Heavenly Father's Plan. Heavenly Father loves us, he sent Prophets to help and guide us on the earth. The Prophets teach us the plan of salvation, teach us the things we should do to go back to Heavenly Father. We had prophets on the earth to guide us since the days of Adam. Now, we have a living prophet President to tell us the words of God. We should be grateful for the works prophets have done for us. We should sustain the Lord's Prophets.

D&C 1:38
God cannot speak to us, he chooses a prophet to help communicate, deliver messages to us.
Prophets feels and knows the things that God wants us to know and do. When a prophet speaks for God, it is as if God were speaking. He teaches the truth and interprets the word of God. We should listen to the Prophets and follow their words, because the words are from God.

Principle 2: Throughout history there has been a recurring pattern of apostasy and restoration.
Amos 8:11-12
From the scriptures, we know that we have prophets teaching us the gospel from Old times. Some people rejected the words of Prophets, therefore, prophets, ordinances, and priesthood authority were taken away. Then, people started to live in the darkness. Without the Prophet's guidance, we will not know the things which God wants us to do. For me, the organization of the Church is perfect, is better than any other organization. It is because the prophets, without them, the organization will be messed up.

2 Nephi 25:17
When some people rejects the message of Prophets, the Prophets were taken away from the earth. People lived in the darkness for a period. That period is Apostasy. Heavenly Father loves us, he does not want us to live in the darkness. So he sent Prophet Joseph Smith to restore the Gospel again. Joseph Smith restored the Gospel, and we started to have Prophets lead and guide us again.

Heavenly Father's Plan

October 15th, 2008
Heavenly Father's Plan
Principle 3: The Atonement of Jesus Christ makes it possible to overcome the obstacles of spiritual and physical death.
Alma 34: 8-10
The great thing of the gospel is that we can live with Heavenly Father once again because of the atonement of Jesus Christ. Through him, all the obstacles can be overcome as long as we obey the commandments. His atonement brought resurrection. If Jesus did not come to earth, we will not resurrect after we die. There will not be postmortal life, therefore, there will not be the plan of salvation.

2 Nephi 2:25-27
These scriptures talk about the Fall. The Fall is actually necessary to Heavenly Father's Plan. Because of the fall, we have physical body and we can have children. Also, we are free to choose between good and evil. Life on the earth is being tested. The fall allows us free to choose liberty and eternal life, or captivity and death. We can only be tested if we can choose. If we follow Heavenly Father's commandments, we will go to eternal life.

Principle 4: Heavenly Father prepared degrees of glory for his children.
John 14:2
Heavenly Father prepared three degrees of glory for us to choose: celestial, terrestrial and telestial Kingdoms. I believe all of us want to live in the celestial Kingdom with both Heavenly Father and Jesus. We are all free to choose. It is our choice to choose which level we are going to live. From the degrees of glory, we can see that Heavenly Father is fair. We go to different Kingdoms according to his judgment.

D&C 98:18
The celestial Kingdom is the highest Kingdom. How will we be able to live there? Through Jesus Christ atonement, all of us have the opportunities to live there. Now, we need to be grateful for Christ's scarf ice. The life on the earth is for men to prepare to go to the celestial Kingdom. As we prepare, we need to repent for our sins, keep all Heavenly Father's commandments. I testify that if we do so, we will go to the celestial Kingdom.

Heavenly Father's Plan

October 13th, 2008
Heavenly Father's Plan
Principle 1: There are three stages of Heavenly Father's Plan: premortal, mortal, and postmortal.
Alma: 34:32
The life here on the earth is for men to prepare to meet the God. We lived as spiritual children with Heavenly Father in premortal life. Heavenly Father sent us on the earth to get bodies of flesh and bones. He also wants us to gain experience on the earth. We are now in the mortal life without living with Heavenly Father to be tested. We will be judged after we physically die. If we believe in God, live worthy, then we will live with him again.

Moses 5:11
Jesus created the earth for us under Heavenly Father's direction. God sent the first people Adam and Eve to live on the earth. Because of the fall, we all have physical bodies that can experience sickness, pain and physical death. We have the right to choose between good and evil. God gave us commandments to keep in order to enter the eternal life. If we choose good and follow all his commandments, we will be able to live with him.

Principle 2: Jesus Christ is central to Heavenly Father's Plan.
2 Nephi 2
Jesus Christ is the one who created and organized the earth for us. Without him, the plan of salvations would have failed. He come to earth organized the truth church for us. After he finished his work, he chose to die to pay for our sins. He testified that he is the son of God. Because of his sacrifice and atonement, we were no sin again.

Alma 5
Jesus Christ died for us, and he resurrected later. Through his sacrifice and atonement, we are able to repent. It is necessary for us to enter the eternal life. Everybody on the earth sins, without Jesus Christ's atonement, we will not be able to live with Heavenly Father anymore. We should be grateful for his sacrifice and repent all our sins. We should repent now, do not wait until later to repent. We will be judged after we die.

We learn to teach by study and also by faith

October 8th, 2008
We learn to teach by study and also by faith
Principle 3: God promises the Holy Ghost to those who treasure up His word.
Alma 17:2-3
We rejoice when we know the knowledge of true. To know the true, we have to search the scriptures diligently to look for principles. We need to ponder and treasure up every word. If we do so, the Holy Ghost will be with us to help us have a better understanding of the message. If we can find the principles from the scripture, then we can use it to our own life. Principles are important for us and investigators to know and follow. Also, prayers, fasting is other ways to invite the spirit.

D&C 84:85
Treasure up words instead of just reading through the scriptures helps feel spirit. If we treasure up the word of God with spirit. When we teach, the spirit will always reminds us what principle, or what words to use. We should have spirit to be with us when we teach. Teaching with spirit is teach with power and authority of God.

We learn to teach by study and also by faith

September 6th, 2008
We learn to teach by study and also by faith
Principle 1: Bearing testimony invites the Spirit into our teaching.
2 Nephi 33:1
I like the scripture says that the Holy Ghost carry the message to unto the hearts of the children of men. We cannot remember everything we have learned. We cannot teach everything that we know to the investigators in a short time. But if we teach by the power of the Holy Ghost, we will feel which is more important to teach.

D&C 100:5-8
We will be able to come up with our testimonies and share them with investigators. The Holy Ghost will carry our testimonies unto their hearts. If they accept the Holy Ghost, they will feel our testimonies are true, they will also feel joy and peaceful.

Principle 2: We obtain the word by faith.
D&C 42:14
If we have faith, the spirit will come to us as we pray, ponder scriptures. Without faith, even we pray hard, study scripture hard, the spirit will not be with us. Also, personal worthiness is necessary to invite the spirit. The spirit will only be with righteous. We should keep the commandments that the Lord has given us.

D&C 88:118
The Lord's way of teaching is teaching by the spirit, which is the best way. Before we go out and teach, we should have the spirit to be with us. If we do not have, we do not teach. We should seek the spirit through many ways until we feel it: pray with faith, ponder scriptures with faith, fast...

We learn to teach by study and also by faith

October 1st, 2008
We Learn to teach by study and also by faith
Principle 2: We must seek to obtain the word.
D&C 11:21
It is important for missionaries to study and ponder the scriptures before we go out and teach. Missionaries need to seek to obtain every words by spirit. To study by spirit means to study the scriptures through the Holy Ghost as we keep pondering and praying. I think to obtain the words means that we know the words through spirit, not just memorize the words. This will help the investigators have a better understanding of our messages.
D&C 42:14
As we study the scriptures, we will receive the spirit through pondering and praying. If we do not receive the spirit, we should keep pondering and praying until we receive it. We do not go out teach without spirit. We should have the principles and doctrines in mind along with spirit, so that we can share our experiences and feelings with investigators.

Principle 3: We obtain the word by study and by preparing to teach the restored gospel.
D&C 88:118
We should enjoy reading scriptures, not just think it is a duty. We need to be want to read, not have to read. If we read scriptures just as a duty, then we lose the spirit and the faith. If we lose spirit and faith, then we lose blessings from reading scriptures. If we study by faith, our mind will be clear, and we will be able to understand the words through the feeling from our heart. We will also learn and benefit from the study.
D&C 109:7
Missionaries need to learn some good methods or strategies to study scriptures. When we read scriptures, we need to look for principles, mark them down, apply to our own life, think some experience that can related to the principle. Also, missionaries need to learn how to plan lessons. We need to be prepared to go out and teach. We need to do our part first, which is a make lesson plan, be ready to share. Then, the spirit will guide us to teach. The spirit will not help us if we do not do our part.

We learn to teach by study and also by faith

September 29th, 2008
We learn to teach by study and also by faith
Principle 1:Prayer and Pondering the scriptures help prepare us to receive the influence of the Holy Ghost.
1 Nephi 11:1
Holy Ghost is the most important help for missionaries to preach the gospel. How can we invite the Holy Ghost to be with us? First, I think obeying the Lord's commandments is important for us to receive the Holy Spirit. For missionaries, it is important to obey the mission rules in order to invite the spirit. Then, along with the obedience, prayer and pondering the scriptures can also help us receive the Holy Ghost.
Alma 5:46
Pray is the way we can communicate with Heavenly Father. Heavenly Father will send us the Holy Ghost to let us know what to do. We need to pray for help, for the Holy Ghost. Also, fasting is a good way to get the Holy Ghost from our Heavenly Father. I have testimony that fasting is powerful. Everything will work out just perfectly as we fast and pray to Heavenly Father, asking for help.

Teaching by the Spirit

September 24th, 2008
Teaching by the Spirit
Principle 3: Missionary should practice methods of teaching that edify.
2 Nephi: 33:1
Missionaries have to teach in a way that edifies. We can ask the investigators questions, watch their reactions, let them involve in studying together, instead of just teaching. Also, as a missionary, part of our job is to help the investigators feel the spirit. Discuss with them of their feeling about the restored gospel. The spirit can help missionaries remember the things that need to teach, it also helps the investigators to understand the discussion. The Holy Ghost can carry the message into investigators' heart, so that they will feel peaceful and joyful.

D&C 50:13-14
Missionaries will be ordained to preach gospel by the spirit. The Holy Ghost will be with missionaries to help them teach the truth. If we do not teach in Heavenly Father's way, which is teaching by the spirit, then it is not God. I think God's way is always better than our own ways. The Lord has provided us many ways to invite the spirit: pray, study scriptures, bear testimony, pondering every word, live the commandments...All these things can help us become more spiritual, become a good missionary.

Teaching by the Spirit

September 22nd, 2008
Teaching by the Spirit
Principle 1: Personal preparation and worthiness are necessary to teach by the spirit.

Alma 8:10
Teaching by the spirit is important for missionary to think ideas of what and how to teach. We should be prepared and stay worthy in order to get the spirit. As we prepare to teach by the spirit, we should purify our heart, keep all the commandments, and pray unto the Lord to ask for the spirit. The spirit will only be with those who are righteous. As we set apart for our mission, Heavenly Father promises us that the spirit will be given to us, but we have to be righteous.
Alma 17:2-3
Read the scriptures diligently, pondering every word will also invite the spirit to be with us. The spirit will be given quietly, through our mind, our heart, and our feeling. We need to be able to recognize the spirit when it comes. When we have the spirit, we can teach with confidence, with power and authority of God.

Principle 2: Missionary can invite the Holy Ghost into their teaching.
Alma 5:45-46
We will be able to know the things that we are teaching is true if we teach by the spirit. As missionaries, we are doing the Lord work in his way, therefore, he gives us the power. The Lord has promised that the spirit will be with missionary to help them teaching if they are righteous. Missionary can invite the Holy Ghost into their teaching easily to help their teaching, as well as the understanding of investigators. No man can teach without the Holy Ghost.
D&C 100:7-8
During the teaching, the Lord will watch us and help us to know what to say by the Holy Ghost. Sometimes, the words that you are teaching can be just come from God. Holy Ghost can help us remember the things that we learned, give us the words that we need to speak in the very moment that we need. Also, the Holy Ghost will carry the message into the investigator's hearts. It is important to teach by the Holy Ghost.

The Companionship of the Holy Ghost

The Companionship of the Holy Ghost
Principle 1: There are many ways that the Holy Ghost influences our lives for good.
1 Nephi 4:6
Lehi went back to Jerusalem to get the plate from Laban. He did not know what he should do to get the plate, but he was led by the spirit. The spirit that he felt was the Holy Ghost. Because of that spirit, he felt confident to go back without any fear. I have been experienced the same feeling many times just like Nephi experienced. The Holy Ghost is real, it leads me and guides me, it really gives me direction to help me overcome difficulty. Sometimes, when I have challenges, I do not know what to do next. However, I know that the Holy Ghost is going to help me, so I do not need to worry too much.

2 Nephi 32:5-8
Heavenly Father sent Jesus Christ to the earth to help us. We learn from the scriptures and all the prophets that the Gospel is true, Jesus is the Christ. I think the most important learning is from the Holy Ghost. Heavenly Father also sent the Holy Ghost to help us better understand the Gospel. Some people may not believe what the scripture or the prophets said, but because of the Holy Ghost, they do believe what they really feel. If they believe what they feel is true, then it will be easier for them to believe what the scripture or prophets said is also true.

Principle 2: Sensitivity and Obedience to the Spirit is One of a Missionary's Greatest Resources.
2 Nephi 33:1
Holy Ghost is important for missionary to share the gospel with the investigators. Missionary do not know everything about the gospel. They cannot teach the investigators everything about it. Missionaries are sent to teach investigators, they are also sent to learn more knowledge of the Gospel. But because of the Holy Ghost, missionary can teach by the spirit. The spirit will help the investigators learn and understand. Like the scripture says, "The Holy Ghost carrieth it unto the hearts of the children of men."

D&C 43:15-16
I think it is important to invite the spirit when sharing the Gospel with investigators. The spirit can help missionary teach what is more meaningful for the investigators. More important, the investigators can also feel the spirit. It might be hard for them to believe your lesson unless they feel the spirit. The first time when I had discussion with missionary, I did not care about what they said. I did not really want to know and learn about it until I felt the spirit during one of our discussions. The spirit was very strong, I feel that it was true. If we can let the investigators feel the spirit, then they will have the desire to learn.

The Companionship of the Holy Ghost

September 15th, 2008
The Companionship of the Holy Ghost
Principle 1: The light of Christ is a power for good in the lives of all people.
Moroni 7:16-19
The light of Christ is also called the spirit of Christ. We all receive the light to help us feel and choose the right from evil. It is a little bit different from the Holy Ghost. Everybody will receive the light of Christ, as they follow the light, they will be led to Christ. As we receive the light of Christ, we should always choose the right, believe in Christ.

D&C 84:46-47
I remember the first time I met the missionary, I really felt something that different, something that I never felt before. I did not know what that feeling was. Now as I look back, I think that feeling was the light of Christ. I was not a member of the Church, but I still felt the spirit.
The light of Christ is given to everybody on the earth, no matter you are a member or not. Because I follow that light or spirit, and developed my faith in Christ, I got baptized and received the Holy Ghost. I know that the light of Christ is true, it is a special spirit for everybody from the God. As we follow the spirit, we will be able to choose right things.

Principle 2: The Holy Ghost is a member of the Godhead.
3 Nephi 28:11
The Holy Ghost is a great gift from the God. Everybody receive it after baptize. The Holy Ghost plays an important role in our lives. It leads and guides us to choose right and do the right things. It is just amazing when I sit in the sacrament meeting, listen to the music, or listen to the talks, feeling the spirit. I know that without the Holy Ghost, I will not be able to feel the spirit. I know that it is a gift from our Heavenly Father. The Holy Ghost will always be with us if we keep all the commandments and stay worthy.

D&C 130:22
The Holy Ghost is different from our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. The difference is that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have body of flesh and bones, but Holy Ghost does not have.
It is a spirit that we can feel. As we keep the commandments, we will be able to feel the Holy Ghost and be guided by the Holy Ghost.

Personal Worthiness 2

September 10, 2008
Personal Worthiness
Principle: 1. Personal worthiness allows prospective missionaries to obtain temple blessings.

D&C 109:22-23
The temple is the house of the Lord. It is a very special and spiritual place. We need to be worth in order to enter the temple. We will receive many blessings from the temple if we are worthy. On the other hand, people who enter the temple unworthily will receive condemnation. The spirit will only be with those people who are clean. We do not want the bad spirit to be in the temple. It is important to become worthy before enter the temple.

D&C 110:7-9
To get the endowment in the temple requires personal worthiness. The endowment is a great gift and blessing from our Heavenly Father. The endowment will bless missionary, and guide them to teach. Also, it will protect the missionaries from danger. I think the temple blessings is only for those who are worthy. As we preparing for the mission, we should stop sin and repent to become worthy. If we do so, we will always feel the spirit and be blessed.

Principle: 2.Repentance is a cleansing process that allows us to become worthy.
1 John 1:5-10
Repentance is an important principle to help us become clean and worthy. Jesus came to the earth, suffered and died to pay for our sins. Through his sacrifice and atonement, we are able to repent. Everybody on the earth makes mistakes, we should be grateful for Jesus Christ's sacrifice and atonement. Without him, we will not be able to repent.

Mosiah 26:29
To repent, I think we must admit that we have sins first, then we repent. If we just lie our sins, and do not repent, we will not be forgiven. After we die, we will be judged according to the sins which we have committed. Instead, if we admit our sins and repent, Heavenly Father will forgive us. We will become clean again.

Personal Worthiness

September 8th, 2008
Chapter 2: Personal Worthiness
Principle: Personal worthiness is necessary to accomplish missionary work.

D&C 38:42/133:5
We need to prepare ourselves to be clean, be worthy enough to serve mission. This is the work
of the Lord. We must be pure in order to have the spirit with us all the time to represent the
Lord. Everybody makes mistake, but as missionary, we should repent , keep our thoughts clean,
keep all the commandments in order to serve mission. Teaching by spirit is a great help during
mission. Missionaries will have hard time to teach without the spirit. In order to invite the spirit
to be with us, we must be clean and worthy. This will also bring us the greatest joy.

D&C 121:45
To prepare for mission, we must keep the law of charity all the time. This is one of the
commandments that Heavenly Father has given us. Our mind should be filled with virtue
garnish. We should repent for all our sins. We can only have spirit to help us sharing the gospel
with others if we keep the law of charity. I know that as we do so, the Lord will bless us.

Called to Serve 2

(1 Nephi 6:4, 22:4)
(D&C 29:27, 11:15,64:29)
(Alma 42:31)
These scriptures talk about the missionary work is the work for the Lord. All missionaries are called by the Lord through his authorized servants. The Lord loves and cares all his children. He wants all his children to have the opportunity to hear about the gospel. I think that is why he ask members to go out and share. We have the opportunity to know and share the gospel. This is the work of the Lord. We should work hard and do our best to let more people join the church. It is not just an assignment, it is also a great blessing. Some people think that two years mission is a big sacrifice, I think it is the greatest blessing. The blessings that we will receive during mission is much more worthy than the sacrifice.

Called to Serve

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15) The Lord is asking to share the restored gospel to all his children. As I read this scripture today, I feel very grateful for the opportunity that I was able to hear about the gospel. I am grateful for our savior Jesus Christ and all missionaries. Here is the true restored gospel now, we as a member of the Church, have the responsibility and the opportunity to share with all children of the God. Jesus Christ spends all his life preaching the gospel. Comparing to him, two years is not too bad. The blessings will come to us as we sharing the gospel with others.

(D&C 11:3, 33:3) This scripture talks about "the field is white enough to harvest". The Lord is actually telling us that many people are ready to hear and accept the gospel. For me, the word "white" means that they are preparing and getting worthy enough to be baptized. Now, we have the truth gospel, we also have many children of the God that are ready to hear and accept. What we need is lots of missionaries, to go out and preach, teach all the nations, all the children of the God. I remember how I met the missionaries, and how wonderful job the missionary did on me. I accept the gospel, joined the church, and have been blessed a lot. Without missionaries, I won't know the gospel, I won't be here. That is one of the reason why I decide to go serve my mission.

2008年9月2日星期二

As I read my Scripture(1 Nephi 1-7) today, I found many things that could apply to our own lives.
Lehi prayed to the Lord, and the Lord has come unto him, give him a book to read. As he read the book and follow the spirit, he was blessed. In our daily lives, as we keep reading the scriptures, and keep all the commandants, we will be blessed as well. The scripture is one of the way to get spirit. I have testimony that reading scriptures can bring us joy, give us more knowledge about Heavenly Father.
Some miracles happened in these scriptures. Heavenly Father helped Lephi get the record of the Jews and his forefathers genealogy from Laban, even though Laban had fifty. It is just amazing that so many miracles happened. I have seen and experienced many miracles in my own life. The fact that I am here in the US, studying at BYU-Hawaii is a miracle for me. I am from mainland China where does not have real church. I went to Utah to study English and met the missionary there. I have been blessed in so many ways since I joined the church. My life just changed. I know that Heavenly Father lives, he is watching each of us and try to help us. He is the one who makes miracles happen to us.
I like the scripture " O that thou mightest be like unto this river, continually running into the fountain of all righteousness". (1 Nephi 2:9) We should keep doing our best, keeping all the commandments. As we do so, we will be blessed.
